Do you struggle with your weight? If you’re like most people, then chances are that you do.
This article is designed to help you reach (and maintain) your weight goals relatively easily and for good.
No, I’m not going to let you in on any “secrets” or quick fixes, but what I will give you is some solid advice on how to become healthier and leaner.
Forget About Going on a Diet
One of the biggest reasons people can’t seem to keep their weight in check is because they’re constantly yo-yo dieting. As in they go on a diet, lose a few pounds, but then put the weight back on down the road.
One of the biggest culprits that causes this, is the fad diet. Something new and shiny comes along promising the world. Everyone gets excited about it, but ultimately no one ever sees any lasting results.
Another big issue with dieting is the compulsive weighing that comes with it. This obsession with one’s weight can actually lead to an eating disorder.
Remember that when trying to lose weight, the goal isn’t really to lose weight. The goal is to become fitter and healthier.
Forge a Healthy Lifestyle
This is by far the most important aspect if you want to lose weight and keep it off for good.
Creating a lifestyle that involves a balanced diet and exercise as a part of your life and not just a phase will have massive benefits.
Some of the things you can do to improve your diet are:
Eat a good amount of protein – Eating a good amount of protein will keep you feeling fuller for longer as well as help you build and maintain muscle mass.
Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full – This seems like common sense, but you’d be amazed as to how many people eat even when they’re not feeling all that hungry.
Stick to whole foods – By this, I mean things like vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, fruit and grains like brown rice.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there are so many great foods out which you can eat and will help keep you healthy. You do not need to live off of celery sticks and salads.
Some things you can do to improve your fitness and health are:
Lift heavy objects – When you go to the gym, I want you to skip the treadmill and go straight to the free weights. Lifting weights has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to get fit and healthy.
Try HIIT training – HIIT or High-Intensity Interval Training has also been shown to help burn off those extra pounds.
Go for a walk – Walking is an amazing, but underrated exercise, because it’s viewed as not being intense enough. The truth is that walking often can really help you shed extra pounds over the long run.
Make Healthier Choices
I know that this won’t be an easy thing for a lot of you to do, but you do need to do it if you want to lose weight and keep that weight off in the long run.
Making healthier choices includes things like drinking water when you’re thirsty and staying hydrated, leaving sugar out of your coffee and tea, and cutting back on highly processed foods.
A few other things you could do to improve your chances are things like:
Eating before you go to the store, so that you don’t buy a bunch of snacks while you’re out.
Not keeping too much food stocked up in your pantry. This way, you won’t be tempted to over eat.
Not going too crazy on your “cheat days”. Yes, you should absolutely enjoy a pizza now and then. Heck you could enjoy a pizza once a week and lose weight. The Idea is to have a healthy lifestyle, so just make sure you eat healthily most days of the week.
Losing weight and keeping it off is not easy, but it can be a lot easier when you change the way you approach certain things in your life.
Most of us know what we need to do, the problem comes with actually doing it.
In the end though, it comes down to whether or not you have what it takes to make a change for the better and for good.
