I believe this lecture explains the reasons behind the obesity epidemic in this country. Take the time to watch this if you can, it uncovers many conspiracies, myths and lies perpetrated on the general public. This is a huge key issue. It’s so simple, the processed food supply has been, “adulterated, contaminated, poisoned, tainted…on purpose” with fructose.

Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. There’s an excellent quote at 40:15 minutes in: “So we’ve had our food supply adulterated, contaminated, poisoned, tainted…on purpose. And we’ve allowed it, OK, and let it….for the addition of fructose for……” see why at 40:30 mintes.

SweetRevenge_DVD_L-210x300In Sweet Revenge – Turning the Tables on Processed Foods, Dr. Robert Lustig, M.D. discusses the science behind his book Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease, and demonstrates practical ways viewers can adopt a lower sugar diet.

When talking about food and health, it is important to understand the startling facts. Did you know 77 percent of the 600,000 items in the American food supply are spiked with added sugar? Or that not all calories are equal? Or that there are more than 50 names for processed sugar on American food labels? Obesity and other metabolic diseases are affecting today’s population, including children and even infants, at an alarming rate. It is important that we find a solution to these problems now.

In the new special Sweet Revenge – Turning the Tables on Processed Foods, Dr. Robert H. Lustig, M.D. identifies obesity and diabetes as symptoms of a much bigger problem — metabolic disease caused by overconsumption of sugar and processed foods — and offers practical tools to start changing your life.

With more than 32 years of expertise in pediatric endocrinology, Dr. Lustig is able to translate complicated science into a simple, yet powerful, message about the health of our country: 75% of disease in America is a direct result of how foods are metabolized in the body. The program details how processed food impacts the hormones that regulate our metabolic process, throwing our system off balance, causing insulin levels to rise and fat cells to grow, and creating a vicious cycle that leads to disease.

So how do we stop loving sugary foods so much? Dr. Lustig gives concrete tips on how to cut these harmful foods out of our diets and prevent chronic illness. These include avoiding processed food, abstaining from drinking your calories, shopping while satiated, and reading the ingredients on the labels. He proposes replacing sugar with fiber, essentially replacing the empty carbohydrates with those that will fill you up.

Filled with important information that will help you feel better and change your life, Sweet Revenge – Turning the Tables on Processed Foods, uses the latest scientific research to debunk common myths on diets, obesity, and what really causes many of today’s chronic diseases.

Robert H. Lustig, M.D. is currently a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of California San Francisco where he is a professor of Clinical Pediatrics. He is a former chairman of the Obesity Task Force of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, a member of the Obesity Task force of the Endocrine Society and is on the Steering Committee of the International Endocrine Alliance to Combat Obesity.
