The New Ballroom – Trump takes questions on the East Wing demolition

In a press Q&A that felt half architectural lecture, half reality-TV pitch meeting, former President Trump defended the demolition of the White House East Wing to make room for what he calls “one of the great ballrooms anywhere in the world.”

The $300 million project, he insists, is “100 percent privately funded”—by himself and “some friends,” naturally. Critics call it a vanity project; supporters call it long overdue; everyone else is just wondering when the Rose Garden gets a jacuzzi.

The plan, reportedly years in the making (or at least 150 according to Trump’s math), promises marble, chandeliers, and a space big enough to honor foreign leaders without setting up a tent on the lawn. Because nothing says “fiscal responsibility” like replacing a “very small building” with a gilded mega-ballroom.
