Put a Missionary on the Payroll Spotlight: Sokney “Chetra” & Julia Liles-Hong – Things To Come Mission

Ezekiel Diet Note: Missionaries do the most important work on the planet and we act like they don’t exist.

Millions worldwide are being jettisoned by democide eugenics murder into eternal damnation like so much garbage.

Every week from now on I want to spotlight another missionary family worthy of your support starting with Things To Come Mission (TCM). There are so many I’m starting with the A’s at TCM.

This new series of posts is in conjunction with my life experience and teaching Biblical Financial Concepts for 30 years. See a brief summary of that wisdom and teaching here:  Financial Umbrella: Put a Missionary on the Payroll

Here’s my challenge, start sending any amount of money you feel led to give this missionary family every month, and watch what happens. You want to get God’s attention and blessings? Become a cheerful giver. Don’t give from leftovers; because there won’t be any. Give the first part and the last will take care of itself. God promises you will always have an abundance to give from. Put Him to the test; this is the only area in scripture God actually allows you to test Him. In Luke 6:38 KJV: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God wants us to obey from love, not obligation. That’s why the apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:7“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

The word used for “cheerful” in 2 Corinthians 9:7 is hilaros (doesn’t have anything to do with “hilarious”). Hilaros means cheerful, without grudging, and it implies giving with a gracious attitude. Therefore, we are to give because God says so but also because we are willing and happy to do so.

Here’s my next challenge to all the Alternative Media Podcasts out there. Do me a favor and invite these mission families on an occasional show so they can tell their story.

Keep the FAITH and ‘Run the Race’
Step by Step.

This July we were delighted to celebrate 17 years since Things to Come Mission Missionaries first arrived in this wonderful country of Cambodia (Ariel Mahilum, wife Faith, and daughter Pauline), and the variety of ministries that have impacted Cambodians for Christ and His service. It was wonderful to focus on, not the workers so much, but the work itself, and most importantly, the God of the work! We know we all have goals for the ministry here moving forward, some are still at the early stages of learning their part in that, whilst others have got stuck right in and committed themselves heart and soul; and then there are those still observing, and we pray for them all, because all of them have a valued place in the ministry of the Lord here. It encourages my heart to know that by the love of God, the compassion of Christ and the motivation of the Holy Spirit, we really can endure for God’s plans and purposes. (photo above)

We can achieve great goals, one step at a time, and how much more incredible to be able to do that together. That’s something I learned whilst running with a group of people, the process was far more pleasant and possible because we all encouraged one another along the way, to do our best. That is what the Lord requires of us too and if one stumbles, pick him up, and keep going, step by step! We are so appreciative of all of you running alongside us on this journey.

As we celebrate the past and present achievements of the ministry here over the last 17 years, we also bid farewell to our fellow missionaries, Jude and Cherry, who have served over here for the past 3 years. That’s a complete ‘term’ on the field, which takes faith, commitment and lots of experiences, joys and challenges along the way. We are thankful that they were willing to serve in this country for one full term and we pray for them as they return to their homeland of the Philippines and continue serving God in a newly inspired way! Thank you to all who supported and encouraged them in different ways.

Below is a photograph of our re-formed Team Cambodia, with James & Agape, and Chetra & I; the other photo is our ‘airport farewell’ with Jude and Cherry.

Below is a photograph of myself sitting with Chanty (left), and Sina in the middle, filming their testimonies. They attend the weekly Bible studies at my home along with one other lady, Chenda. Our W.O.W group is now meeting twice a month and I currently co-lead that with Raksmey and we have hope of a few more ladies joining us from August, which is also an ongoing prayer request of ours. All of these women work for anti-trafficking organisations and we want to develop a support group for their spiritual, personal and family life.

Our ministries continue here and we also look for ways to keep developing our church members, our outreach capacity and our personal skills. Agape and I recently attended a really helpful, 2 day seminar on trauma and sustainable Christian leadership. We were thankful to learn from a Dr. David C. Wang, but what was additionally valuable were the table-top discussions with older Khmer Pastors and women in ministry or other such counseling roles. It was incredible to hear their experiences of trauma during the Pol Pot regime and genocide, and how they endured such atrocity; and now, as long term Christians and leaders, how they help others to overcome trauma, which starts with seeking help; but, that help must be available and it is severely lacking in Cambodia.

This month I’ve had lots of fun with the children at church, introducing drama into our ‘Sunday Sessions’, and my ‘Baking Beauties’ turned into ‘Baking Buddies’! As we were joined by our lively young lad Nathan, who thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Nathan is the son of one of our Khmer church elders, Soy, who has a heart to develop more in ministry and we are thankful for his partnership, skills and insights. We are also thrilled to have ladies providing food and drinks for our Sunday lunch; a first time leader of the worship service and a first time worship singer too! Small steps to great progress. Keep praying!

Prayer Requests:

> Please pray for our members in new roles of ministry.
> Pray for more people in the community to access the training we provide.
> Pray for our children to understand and access their ‘Sunday Sessions’ in Khmer over English; this is an interesting process as we are all developing language skills; the children, and the missionaries!
> Pray for our upcoming team retreat as we readjust to a new dynamic.

Forever thankful for your prayers, support and encouragements.
